Gifting Bikes to Kids Programme
We spent two amazing days in schools in the Daventry Area before Christmas first at Monksmoor Primary and then at Woodford Halse School this week and were able to gift 12 bikes to kids that otherwise would not have one.
We have been working with West Northants Unitary Council on this and specially with Justine Horrocks, Local Area Partnership Lead for Rural North and Rural West, Public Health & Wellbeing who has put an enormous amount of energy into the programme.
As Matt Golby, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health at WNC says “This is a fantastic initiative that is only made possible by partners working together. I would like to say a huge thank you to all involved and those who have donated. We know the positive benefits physical activity and being outdoors has on our young people and it is great that this scheme brings these elements together. I look forward to seeing how we can further roll this initiative out to other schools in the area and hearing from the students how they are enjoying the use of their bike.”
We can so much more as a cycling community helping young people get active through cycling.
You can help
I am sure that there are many very lucky kids that will be getting new bikes this Christmas making their current steed redundant.
If the redundant bike is basically in good order and would suit a 6 to 10 year old; before considering any other option PLEASE bring the bike to the Delapre Bike Doctor at Delapré Abbey and if suitable we will put into the programme as we roll it out to schools across the county in the New Year.
